- Pediatric Spinal Cord Injury
- Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
- Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
- Cerebral palsy (CP)
- Parkinson's Disease
- And other neurological conditions
Our aggressive Activity-Based Program is designed to provide exercise that combines technological advancements with scientific knowledge. In short, our Activity-Based Trainers develop and deliver therapies that promote FUNCTIONAL recovery to improve the health and quality of life for our clients.
Why is this type of therapy so important? With over 10 years of experience in the paralysis recovery field, we have learnt that therapy means so much more than learning to compensate for what was lost after a life changing accident. The body is designed to move, especially when living with paralysis! The prevention of secondary health conditions is high on the list of our program, a sedentary life increases an individuals risk of chronic health problems such as; heart disease, higher blood pressure and diabetes. Clients who attend our program on a consistent basis have noticed enhanced functions in a variety of areas, including: cardiovascular endurance, bladder control, bone density, circulation and mental health.
We are proud to be the only Community Fitness and Wellness Center Affiliate of the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation in the State of Florida. Through this Affiliation, NextStep Orlando is a member of the NeuroRecovery Network (NRN), a network of cutting-edge rehabilitation sites that deliver therapies that activate the dormant nervous system through Activity-Based Therapies. These therapies include
- Body Weight Supported Treadmill Training
- Overground Gait Training
- Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation
- Guided Strength and Conditioning
The process of recovery can be slow, but recovery is always our goal and we ensure we put our clients in the best environment to push them to their full potential! This is what our clients have to say:
“NextStep Orlando is unique when compared to other therapy facilities, it’s not just about receiving activity based therapy but about building friendships with other Spinal Cord Injury peers going to monthly events like surfing, celebrating birthdays, celebrating life days and having people in similar situations while striving and working hard for a better quality of life.”
“NextStep Orlando has changed my life for the better and it has made many of my hopes become a reality. I have seen some recovery quickly and I have seen people like myself, in which it has taken several years. The idea is to at least try and push yourself to find out what you can accomplish, I cannot begin to express how thankful I am that NextStep Orlando has opened in Central Florida”
This is a place you can come to and realize there is hope for recovery, there is hope for the future, and there is hope for life after a spinal cord injury. NextStep Orlando is so much more than Activity Based Therapy, it is a community and a family filled with support, hope and motivation.

This program is NOT covered by insurance. Insurance is limiting the recovery of those living with paralysis, teaching individuals how to adapt and live in their wheelchair. We do not accept this, we provide HOPE!!
The success of NextStep Orlando and our mission of providing those individuals living with paralysis a better quality of life are greatly dependent on our sponsors and donors. Our Gala Event is going to be an amazing evening and an opportunity for the community to see how our clients are THRIVING. Join Us!

Written by Amanda PerlaIm Amanda from Orlando, FL. About 10 years ago, I had just turned 18, I had been dancing competitively for 11 years and was a month away from graduating high school when in a split second my life changed forever. On April 21, 2007 I was a passenger in a car accident that left me paralyzed from the chest down. I broke my neck and almost completely severed my spinal cord. I am now a C6 Incomplete Quadriplegic. “What made me most excited was to be able to help my family, being able to pull the burden out of them that they’ve been struggling with. That’s what made me feel the best. Everything else to come, is to come. And we’re going to live life how we have been, just not going to have to worry about buying the supplies that I need.”
"As I got better, which I did in the future, I think I remember researching them [Swope, Rodante P.A.] myself and found that they are very good at what they do. "
