As a result, individuals, families, and even experienced healthcare professionals are often left piecing together information from dozens of sources in search of funding.
That challenge is what first drew our attention to NeuroBridge Solutions.
Why SCI Funding Is So Hard to Find
At SpinalCord.com, we see this challenge firsthand. We regularly hear from individuals and families looking for financial assistance to help pay for equipment, technology, and other essential resources. While we’re always happy to direct people to our Funding Inquiry page, we know that’s often just the beginning of the process. Every person’s situation is different and determining which opportunities someone may qualify for usually means sorting through dozens of programs, each with its own eligibility requirements. Believe it or not, some grants go unused every cycle – the money is there but no one knows how to access it.
A Simpler Way to Search: Funding Finder
NeuroBridge Solutions was founded around a simple idea: if funding opportunities already exist, there should be an easier way for people to find them. The company is focused on making those existing resources easier to discover and navigate for people living with spinal cord injuries and others with mobility-related disabilities.
The centerpiece of that effort is the Funding Finder, a platform currently in development. Instead of searching dozens of nonprofits, manufacturers, state programs, and charitable foundations one at a time, Funding Finder is designed to:
- Bring scattered funding sources together into a single, searchable place
- Let users filter opportunities based on their own circumstances and needs
- Provide more qualified candidates to non-profits and foundations
- Help users quickly see which programs they may qualify for, and what each one requires
- Provide an AI matching score to show which programs are best suited for you
What sets Funding Finder apart is its focus. Rather than a general search engine or a static list of links, it is being built specifically for the spinal cord injury community—organized around the equipment, technology, and rehabilitation needs that matter most to the people it serves.
The People Behind NeuroBridge Solutions
One of the most compelling aspects of NeuroBridge Solutions is the people behind it. The company wasn’t founded by people viewing these challenges from the outside – they live it every day.
Kortlund Natterstad, Co-Founder and SCI Consultant, sustained a spinal cord injury following an off-roading accident and later became involved in spinal cord injury research and consulting through the North American Spinal Cord Injury Consortium (NASCIC). He launched NeuroBridge Solutions alongside Natalia Natterstad, the company’s CEO and Co-Founder, after recognizing a significant gap in the funding landscape for individuals seeking assistive technology and rehabilitation equipment.
That lived-experience perspective shapes everything the company does.
A Bold Goal
As assistive technology continues to evolve, access to funding remains one of the greatest barriers facing the spinal cord injury community. By making available funding easier to find, NeuroBridge Solutions hopes to remove some of that friction for individuals, families, and the healthcare professionals who support them.
Although Funding Finder is still in development, the need it addresses is already here. By bringing fragmented resources into one centralized platform, it has the potential to simplify a process that has long been one of the most frustrating parts of life after a spinal cord injury.
