Wings for Life World Run-May 7, 2017

Large group of runners during road race

The annual Wings for Life World Run is being held this Sunday, May 7, 2017 and spots are filling up fast. This race might sound like any other race, but what makes the Wings for Life World Run unique is the scale of participation.

People race with each other from all across the globe- regardless of the weather or separation of time zones- starting at the 11:00 AM UTC.

That’s right, runners from Vienna, Tainan, Dubai, Santa Clarita, and more cities run together at the same time!

A Race for Runners of All Experience Levels

If you might be worried about reaching the finish line, no worries the finish line meets you! 30 minutes after the race starts, a “Catcher Car” catches up with people along the race. So the people who are passed first by the Catcher Car cross the finish line first and those who are caught last are declared “Global Champions”. No matter your background or experience level, there is a place for everyone for this race.

The Wings for Life World Run is made possible by the Wings for Life Spinal Cord Research Foundation and 100% of the contributions from the race are put towards spinal cord research that is changing people’s lives.

Flexible Ways to Participate

To sign up for the race check out the official Wings for Life World Run race page for more information. Some cities are already sold out! If there isn’t a race being held near you, the Wings for Life World Run app lets you race with everyone in real time. Once you download the app, you can participate in the race wherever you are and start at the same time.

Feeling nervous? There is a training feature that allows you to practice before the big day. GPS location services do need to be enabled to allow the “Catcher Car” to bring the finish line to you, so make sure your phone is all charged up for the race!
